The Story Behind Living in History

Who is behind Living in History?

Living in History was created by Niels Becker. His passion is restoring old houses in the Eifel region and giving historic buildings a new purpose. He has been welcoming guests to his historic Eifel properties since 2016.

How did the idea for Living in History begin?

Living in History grew from Niels Becker's passion for old houses and historic architecture. The idea is to preserve historic buildings, restore them carefully and give them a useful new life.

Instead of simply looking at history from the outside, guests can stay inside these buildings and experience their special atmosphere for themselves.

How are the historic buildings restored?

Each historic building is treated as an individual restoration project. The aim is to preserve its character and important original features wherever appropriate while combining them with modern elements and contemporary living comfort.

The goal is not to turn an old house into a new house. Its history and individual character should remain visible and become part of the experience.

Why is preserving old buildings important to Living in History?

Historic buildings are part of the history and identity of their region. Living in History aims to preserve buildings worth saving and give them a new future through careful restoration and continued use.

By using these buildings as holiday accommodation, they can remain alive and accessible rather than becoming unused or disappearing.

Have any Living in History restoration projects received awards?

Yes. Several restoration projects by Niels Becker have received awards or recognition from the Eifel Baukultur Preis for exemplary restoration. The Heidi Braun Cottage and the Wollweberhaus received awards, and the Burg Bistro received recognition.
